Juggling multiple projects
There’s a choral piece I’ve been trying to write for maybe a year now. There are plenty of other projects I’d like to work on, but I’ve been hesitant to shift my focus. My worry is that if I let anything else distract me, I might never come back to this piece, and it’s important that I finish it. But given how slowly I’m going with this piece, the result is that I end up working very little on music.
I’m now wondering if it might be a better idea to work on multiple things at once instead. Daily work on the choral piece is still a priority, but it maybe doesn’t need a 100% allotment of my creative attention. Ideally, other projects will create some sort of momentum that I’m currently lacking. They can cross-pollinate each other with ideas, potentially leading to a way forward for my main project.
This blog is another project I want to take on in order to gain some momentum. I like to think and talk about music almost as much as I like to make and listen to it, so writing seems like a natural extension of my musical activities. I hope that having a place to give my thoughts written form will help them develop over time. And if I’m lucky, it will even help me break creative blocks and make better music.
